Otto FluPlus VAC
Avian Influenza commonly known as “Avian Flu” is a viral problem caused by Orthomyxo viruses. It is characterized by sneezing, coughing, gasping, lacrimal and nasal discharge. The prominent postmortem lesions are petechial hemorrhages in trachea, mucoid filled naries, swelling of infraorbital sinuses up to neck, focal hemorrhages on shanks and un-feathered skin, purple discoloration of combs, wattles and hocks. Influenza in birds is caused by three genera of avian influenza viruses A, B and C but Influenza A viruses are known to naturally infect birds. It can cause 100% morbidity and mortality up to 100%. Bird Flu (H5) is emerging as one of the most serious threats to domestic, wild and commercial poultry. This particular virus is responsible for the loss of at least 422 million birds since 2005. Worldwide, it is believed that the third wave that started in 2020 is still ongoing. Mostly European and North American countries adopt “cull alone” policy in order to mitigate this virus. However, in our region, China has adopted a “cull plus vaccination” strategy and it has lost relatively less poultry in the last three waves of Avian Influenza (H5) outbreak.
